Students have demonstrated repeatedly that most don’t care about the AMS. Except for last year, the average voter turnout for the elections was 10%. Why?
Because for them, the AMS barely impacts them. Candidates throw around buzzwords like ‘engage’, ‘impact’ or ‘educate’, but most students don’t care. They want to focus on school, work, and clubs.
My goal in this election is to give students a reason to care. I want to outreach them with the Gospel, because it is lifechanging.
The AMS website states that our goal is:
To improve the quality of the educational, social, and personal lives of the students of UBC.
Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life’. I believe that the Gospel is truthful, and not enough students know about it. I want to educate them on the rebellious and wicked history humans committed against God to understand where they come from.
I also want to educate them on the only salvation from sin and death through Jesus Christ.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. – Matt 11:28
We make decisions, solve problems, and tackle issues in our lives, but we are never satisfied. I believe that true rest can only be achieved through faith in Jesus.
Christianity is a loving community guided by the Holy Spirit. Believers help each other grow and support each other through tough times. Moreover, believers are adopted into the House of God. One day, we’ll live with Jesus Christ in the new heavens and new earth.
You are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household – Eph 2:19
